#2081: Can other proxies than SOCKS5 be used for Telegram?

Отредактирована: сегодня

Question

Can other types of proxies be used for the Telegram channel in Swarmica besides SOCKS5?

For example, is it possible to use VLESS or another connection method if the SOCKS5 proxy is unstable or blocked?

Answer

Directly in the settings of the Swarmica Telegram channel, SOCKS5 proxy is supported.

It can be specified in the Proxy URL field, for example:

socks5://user:password@host:port

Other types of proxies or protocols, such as VLESS, are not directly supported in this field.

However, using SOCKS5 in Swarmica settings is not the only way to provide the server with access to Telegram.

If your infrastructure requires a more stable connection method, Telegram traffic routing can be organized at the network level. For example, Xray/VLESS, WireGuard, or another suitable solution can be set up on the server or a separate network gateway, and traffic can be directed through it to Telegram.

In such a scheme:

Swarmica → regular connection to Telegram → system routing → tunnel/gateway → Telegram

For Swarmica, it looks like regular access to the Telegram API. How this traffic goes to the external network is determined by the server's network configuration.

For example, some installations use a combination of Xray/VLESS and a TUN interface, through which only the necessary outgoing traffic is routed.

In this option, specifying a SOCKS5 proxy in the Swarmica Telegram channel settings is not required if access to Telegram is already provided at the operating system level.

Important. Configuring VPN, Xray/VLESS, TUN interfaces, and system routing is not part of Swarmica setup and depends on the client's infrastructure.

A routing error can lead to loss of network access to the server. Therefore, before changing routes, it is recommended to have access to the server console, hypervisor, IPMI/iLO, or another management channel that does not depend on the SSH connection.

Upon request, Swarmica technical support can provide an example of Xray/VLESS configuration via TUN as a starting point for setting up routing in your infrastructure.
